Book Floats, Price Rises… What You Need To Know

Hi everybody, I’m writing this at 4 a.m. because it’s time. Last year, my local, long-time Port Charlotte printer, Royal Palm Press, went out of business, and the nearest one I could find to replace them was A&A Printing up in Tampa, some 2 hours drive away. Whereas before, I could just drive, or have Dave drive, me over to Royal Palm and pick up the printed copies of Wet Goddess, now I must have them shipped by UPS from Tampa, at a considerable expense, equal to about 10% of the total price.

Also, as you may (or may not have) noticed, prices for everything have gone up recently, and my books are no exception! The good news is, Wet Goddess is selling at the phenomenal rate of 1 copy every 1.5 days, and this has been going on for more than a month! These are sales like I had when I released it, in 2010 and 2011! I am now earning some noticeable money off the book, which I desperately need to supplement my meager Social Security check (I had a rather checkered career, if you will).

Just so you know, after ages at the price of $21.95, I have now raised the price of Wet Goddess to $24.95 per copy. I do not project any future price rises, as $24.95 is about the limit I will, or can afford to, pay for a book (unless it is an authentic copy of the Necronomicon of Abdul Al-Hazrad bound in the skin of an authentic werewolf — cue Warren Zevon, “Werewolves of London”)!

So there you go, readers. Wet Goddess is the only book I have that is selling right now. There was never much demand for Orgone Box, which was written to document a horrible defect in the late Wilhelm Reich’s “orgonomy” nonsense, and there is so little demand for Mel-Khyor I frequently just give copies away to people as a token of my appreciation (for those who haven’t read it, it also features inter-species sex, but the significant other is a featherless biped humanoid alien, not the most divergent-from-the-family-tree group of mammals).

I’ve come a long way since I introduced the book 16 years ago at $14.95, because I wanted to publish a book even I could afford! The price now reflects the continued, rising value of the book, as determined by readers, and the rising costs of producing it, which are considerable.

I want to thank everyone who has bought the book already, and apologize to those who are thinking about buying it: you will have to save another 400 cents, or 80 nickels, before you can do so! I apologize, and wish it wasn’t so, but there it is, gang.

Here’s a last little jab: I am shipping a copy to a buyer, the Provost of New College, a guy named Dave Rohrbach! Whether this is bad or good I don’t know, since our Florida Gubernator Ron DeSantis is currently trying to scrub all traces of WOKE, the miracle mood-managing detergent, from the school. Has he been successful? Only time will tell! But I’ve been dreading getting Wet Goddess mixed-up in politics, because I have a target on my back a mile wide.

What my opponents don’t realize is that my father designed the radar sets for the first American, radar-guided, surface-to-air (SAM) anti-aircraft rocket battery, the Missile Master, in 1950’s Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey, and that I have, through genetics, I guess, inherited a bit of that defensive capability! I can defend my and Dolly’s experience on several levels, including legally, morally, and scientifically. But should it really need any defense?

In a perfect world, no, it wouldn’t. Unfortunately, as you may have noticed, this world falls a little short of perfect. So it goes.
